Description
Silvester Motor Company's name has been synonymous with quality motoring in Canterbury and beyond since it was established in the early 1960s.Founder Ron Silvester began as a teenager cleaning cars. From such humble beginnings he developed the company originally known as Sydenham Park Car Sales, which grew to three used vehicle premises in Christchurch and then an additional Wellington branch.
Consolidating into one purpose-built site on Moorhouse Avenue and renamed Silvester Motor Company a showroom development was constructed in 1995 from a design chosen by Ron, which was built after his untimely early passing in the same year.
A mix of new and used vehicles feature at the Silvester dealership including brand new Isuzu D Max utilities, a full range of pre-owned late model Kia passenger and commercial vehicles and the ever present collection of classic motor vehicles, including Chevrolet, Pontiac, Cadillac with the Corvette and Camaro models always well represented.
The motor racing passion of the company founder resulted in, from a wooden cabinet in 1975, the growth of what was Sydenham Park Chev Spares and is today a nationally recognised Race and Performance department – Silvester V8 Performance - supplying specialist equipment to the racing fraternity. The four bay fully equipped Service Centre is renown for its expertise in the Chevrolet, Kia and Isuzu brand as well as being an outstanding all round area for general maintenance, warrants of fitness and full safety checks leading into any holiday periods.
Whilst the earthquake damage has had an impact on some of the company's buildings and infrastructure for the Silvester team it is business as usual – and the opportunity to rebuild for the future will be embraced enthusiastically.
